Following the release of her Air Zoom GP Turbo silhouette last month, Naomi Osaka is set to release her second apparel capsule with Nike. Created with an athlete’s personal feedback in mind, the range demonstrates the versatility of Osaka’s style as a tennis player and influential figure.
“Nike is a place where I can just go and explore. Sometimes I feel like it’s like a designer’s playground,” Osaka explained in a statement. that our conversations start with a simple idea and lead to really fun and creative designs that reflect who I am as an athlete and a woman.”
Consisting of an assortment of t-shirts, shorts, hoodies, a crop top and a mesh bodysuit, the garments are covered in deeply personal graphic treatments that represent the variety of roles Osaka has on her plate: tennis champion, model, social justice defender, multicultural star, player and more.
“Naomi pops up everywhere, not just in sports. She is at the top level of her sport, she speaks out on social justice issues and she is committed to providing spaces for young girls to follow new role models,” added Carly Ellis, Chief Designer by NikeCourt. “As designers, watching her interact in these different corners of culture, we can build a lot of versatility into the collection, whether it’s in the number of pieces or in the intricacy of the details. True to its aesthetic, specific styles like the crop top feature ribbed detailing, while the utility shorts feature a high waisted profile. Elsewhere, offerings are echoed by Osaka’s favorite camo graphic pattern and favorite color orange.
